KAT

Kat (Ecaterina Botezatu, b. 1999) is a visual artist and tattooist from the Republic of Moldova, based in Iceland since 2019. Her passion for art began in childhood as a way to express emotions through painting and drawing. She studied at the College of Fine Arts in Chisinau, specializing in human figures, still lifes, and portraits.

After relocating to Iceland, she was deeply inspired by the country’s raw and powerful landscapes—its storms, glaciers, volcanoes, and waterfalls. These natural forces, both beautiful and dangerous, became central to her work, influencing her exploration of the relationship between humanity and the environment. Her paintings now blend human figures, particularly women, with nature, evoking themes of fragility, beauty, and preservation.

Initially working with watercolors and later acrylics, she has recently transitioned to oil painting, which plays a key role in her current body of work. Her upcoming collection, focused on women as embodiments of nature, reflects her concern for the effects of climate change, such as melting glaciers and shifting ecosystems. Through her art, she aims to highlight nature’s resilience while emphasizing its vulnerability.

Her background in fine art also influences her tattooing, where she combines precision with emotion to create expressive, detail-rich pieces. Whether on canvas or skin, her work remains deeply connected to nature, capturing its essence and transformation.
